Another of Roy’s outcrosses derived from his original orange line of breeding begun over twenty years ago, Midas Magic has been a favorite since first spied in the seedling fields. It stood out above the others then and continues to be a top yellow today. Its bright crystal clear Naples yellow color, RHS 11A, coupled with its wide, ruffled form and exceptionally branched scapes has always captured our hearts. Leave it to Roy to be daring and mate a creamy melon variety with a hot orange colored one. Is it intuition or, as Roy often says when complimented on a seedling, “even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in awhile”? Midas Magic has been consistently good year after year in our fields and that’s how we like our originations to perform. Midas Magic produces a good healthy plant that remains dark green all growing season and is a fine performer. It does not increase as fast as the norm due to its heavy scape production and reblooming habit. Stands up bravely in both sun and heat looking fresh in the evening garden.
